STUDY ABROAD IN NEW ZEALAND

NEW ZEALAND EDUCATION SYSTEM

New Zealand education has long been considered a well-known education. The New Zealand education system is consistently ranked among the best in the world. New Zealand is considered one of the "leading nations of innovation" based on the quality of education.

Why do we have that assessment? First, let’s have a basic understanding of New Zealand’s educational system

The New Zealand education is divided into the following levels:

  • Preschool: for children from 0-5 years old
  • Primary: for children from 5-10 years (1st through 6th grade). Compulsory education is available for students of this age.
  • Lower secondary: students 11 to 13 years old (grades 7 and 8)
  • High school: Grades 9-13 (Beginning at age 13). Students may choose to attend private or public high schools.

There are about 400 high schools in New Zealand. New Zealand has four entry periods

Schoolyear usually begin in February and end in mid-December. Currently, there are many international students who complete New Zealand High School (grades 12 and 13) before starting college or university.

  • University: New Zealand's accredited university degrees are internationally recognized. Many students have achieved great achievements in the field of training in New Zealand. Often, university degrees are completed in three years, with programs completed in four years.

 Students take one more year to earn a bachelor's degree of honor. New Zealand universities offer pre-university programs that help international students prepare for college, usually for one year. Courses include English language arts, maths, and other supplementary subjects.

The academic year lasts from late February to December, with holidays between two semesters. Some schools operate under the semester system with two admissions per year (February and July).

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor program, students can continue their studies at Masters level for one to two years.

  • Academies of Technology and Polytechnics

New Zealand has 22 institutes of technology and polytechnics. Courses are usually based on career and skills programs, from certificate level to university and graduate level.

Private educational institutes and universities: The growing number of private training centers and universities offer other learning options. These schools offer certificates and degrees in various disciplines including arts, hotels, computer science, quality management, ecotourism and other disciplines. More than 800 such schools have been registered with the NZQA. About a quarter of these schools are owned and operated by Maori. Students may take the first year of the bachelor program at the Institute of Technology, then transfer to the University to complete the remaining years of the program.

 

  • Private training centers and universities:

The growing number of private training centers and universities offer other learning options. These schools offer certificates and degrees in various disciplines including arts, hotels, computer science, quality management, ecotourism and other disciplines. More than 800 such schools have been registered with the NZQA. About a quarter of these schools are owned and operated by Maori.

  • Advanced Masters (18+): For students who complete their degree program at the University, want to pursue a higher education degree at the Masters level.

 

  • English School:

The English language school is largely private in New Zealand. In addition, many colleges, institutes and universities also offer English language training. There are 27 English language schools affiliated with colleges and universities in New Zealand and more than 80 private English language schools. .

There are many English language courses to meet the diverse requirements. Individual or group-based courses last for 1 to 48 weeks.

Admission Schedule:

 Undergraduate / Grade: Beginning in February or March and July or August with major universities;

 College / University Preparation: Beginning in February, May, and October - depending on the school;

 English Course: monthly continuous tuition
